On Sunday 22 April,  hoping to avoid the forecast showers, the Weald Ladies 3rd Team
played Hampden Park Ladies 2nd Team. First pair of Ingrid Shortall and Kristina
Banham unfortunately didn’t really make much of an impression on the consistent
and experienced 1st pair of Kim Reid and Nicky Addison, struggling to get any
consistency and making too many unforced errors. The Hampden Park pair took the
match easily 6-0, 6-2, with Ingrid’s serve winning the only two games of the
match. Second pair of Gill Andersson and Jany Phillips played Hampden Park’s 2nd
pair, Ann Stone and Lorna Holloway, with some good rallies, but losing 6-4,
6-3.

 

In the second round, Ingrid and Kristina warmed up a bit and managed to
take the second set having lost the first, with some better net play and
serving, but were unable to keep the pressure on Ann and Lorna, losing 6-4, 3-6,
6-3, while Gill and Jany gave Kim and Nicky a bit more of a game, again with
some long rallies, but unfortunately lost 6-1, 6-4. This was something of a
whitewash by the Hampden Park team for the Weald’s first match of the summer
season – hopefully they can improve their performance next time !
