Weald teams win away ( and at home ! )
The Weald Tennis Teams were all over Sussex last weekend with great succesas all teams showed there wish to play after the long weather lay off ! The Ladies 3rd Team had a long journey to West Wittering to play Harbour Way Club for the third match of the season. In hazy winter sunshine, first pair of Helen Sewell and Kristina Banham started hesitantly against second pair of Jean Fitch and Rose Buckland who initially put up a good defensive approach, but Helen and Kristina stepped up their game and won convincingly 6-3, 6-1. Second pair of Winnie Fox and Rachel Devereux had an up and down game against first pair of Helen George and Debbie Gardner, but lost 1-6, 6-0, 14-16 (third set tie break). Helen and Kristina then played a solid, attacking game against Helen and Debbie, winning 6-0, 6-0 while Winnie and Rachel battled hard to take their match against Jean and Rose 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 (another third set tie break), resulting in a 3-1 win, for the team's third win of the season. The 4th team Ladies went to Chichester and wonall four rubbers. Kate Cotter & Anne Tomlin won 6-3 6-4 and 7-5 6-1 while Gill Andersson & Kate Burnett won6-3 6-0 & 6-4 6-2. Several Mens teams also played , the Mens 1st team went to Amherst ,Hastings and came away with a 4-0 win ;Dan Colley & Timmy Gedin winning6-2 6-4 and 6-4 6-3 ,with Dave Lleadbitter & Tom Hughes winning 2-6 6-2 6-3 and 6-3 6-3 .The 4th team hosted Hurstpierpoint 1st team and won 3-1 with Terry Molloy & Steve Colley winning 6-4 4-6 6-4 and 6-3 6-3 with david lewis & Chris Odey losing 7-6 3-6 2-6 and winning 6-2 6-2 to give the team a 3-1 win. Finally the 5th team won 3-1 at Angmering with Nick Reason & Matt york winning 6-3 3-6 6-2 and losing 6-1 4-6 2-6 , while Maurice McMahon & Rohan Loh won 6-2 7-5 and 6-3 6-3 to cap a winning weekend for the Teams. Peter Molloy went to Dartford to try to qualify for the grade 3 event at Kingsley and duly went through the draw beating Hamish goff 4-1 4-1 ,then Elliot Ward 5-3 4-1 and then won the final against felow sussex player Logan Busgess Hayes 5-4 4-2 to Qualify for his second grade 3 event .
